![]() ![]() These are only a few but there are many artists I admire, there are just too many to list here!Ĥ. I am big fan of the likes of Jason Dowd (upland_lowlife) and the Japanese tattoo artist Horiyoshi III. But I like it all and it’s important to seek out and admire all kinds of art and artists. Most of the art I ogle over is by comic book artists or tattoo artists. They are hard and fast flying and when they erupt in 100-bird coveys, they leave even the most seasoned upland hunters fumbling with their guns as they watch in awe! Despite that, they thrive in the dry California climate! Water is not so important as they can get much of their water intake from their food, but a lack of winter/spring rains can affect numbers. They will usually stick around an area season after season, as long as there is food and shelter. What makes this bird so special for you? Living in California, you see or hear California Quail (also known as Valley Quail) everywhere! No wonder why it’s our state bird! California Quail are one of those game birds that are reliable yet offer a challenge that any distinguished wing-shooter can appreciate. Of all gamebirds, it seems you are partial to California Quail. ![]() ![]() #DIBUJO GRAB COPIO FULL#She bought me some pencils, pens, paint and some canvases, and I Iocked myself in my office and my love for art was reborn again! These days I try draw or paint something at least once or twice a week! I came full circle!Ģ. My wife took notice of my art and doodles and asked me why I didn’t draw more often. When my daughter was born and as she grew, we would draw or paint together pretty often. I still drew a little, here and there, for fun. As I got older, I lost interest while I focused on work, etc. What made you start drawing/painting? I was really into art growing up! I was really into comics so a lot of what I drew was related to comics, cartoons, or movies I watched. Beyond detail (and more importantly) I focus on creating a very realistic and impactful feeling with the use of values (light/shadows), which stays in our memory much longer than details.ġ. Some of my paintings are more detailed than others, but that depends on what I want the piece to focus on, or whether or not it’s an entry for a stamp competition- in which case, more realism and detail tends to do better. The bigger challenge has always been balancing realism and artistic interpretation to compose something that was beyond my photo reference-like pushing shadows and colors, exaggerating light, or choosing what areas to detail. I’ve tried various types of art, but I always came back to the art of realistically rendering nature as it is. It was not really a challenge to find a style that worked for me. Was it a challenge to find your way & style in the beginning? I’ve had a few college art classes, but the duck stamp contest has generated many connections and opportunities that have led me to where I am today.Ģ. After winning the contest in 2006, I started to take my art seriously and thinking about it as a career path. When I was about 13, a family friend introduced me to the Federal Junior Duck Stamp contest. As a kid, my favorite animal to draw was horses. I’ve been drawing animals for as long as I can remember. ![]() How did you get started in drawing/painting? ![]()
